Alex’s grades started dropping in ninth grade.

He couldn’t focus. He couldn’t sit still in class. He was anxious in a way that didn’t feel like school anxiety. The pattern looked like ADHD. He didn’t have the headaches and nausea his family had. Whatever this was, he didn’t think it had anything to do with his eyes.

His mom told him to get tested anyway.

The exam found a mild case of BVD. Mild was the word. Alex almost didn’t believe a small finding could matter much. He got the glasses.

Two years later, his grades were back to A’s. The anxiety he had carried since ninth grade was gone. The thing he flags first now isn’t the academics. It’s the emotional strength. He’s comfortable being himself. He doesn’t run anxious anymore.

A mild case, he says, was enough to drastically change his life.
